Foster Thinking: Brand Therapy for a Brand Strategist

The problem

How do you help a brand strategist? Justin Foster has spent decades crafting brands for conscious leaders. But like every founder, he was too close to his own, and it was time to reintroduce Foster Thinking as the home for everything he does.

The solution

Brand therapy first, like always. Justin wrote every word of the site himself, because nobody writes Justin better than Justin. I built the world around his words, keeping it family with the brands he already runs.

The client:

Justin Foster, brand crafter for conscious leaders. Creator of F the Formula, co-founder of the social impact practice Massive, author, speaker, and the strategist other founders call when their brand stops telling the truth. Foster Thinking is his oldest brand, the one with his name on it.

The symptom:

For years, fosterthinking.com was not a website. It was a redirect to his Substack. Twenty years of IP, frameworks, and a voice people already trusted, and no front door. A friend finally said it to his face: he is a genius, but there is no way to introduce him, because everybody knows what he believes and nobody knows what he does.

The session:

How do you help a brand strategist? The same way you help anyone: you ask good questions and listen hard. Ninety minutes of brand therapy, with the mirror pointed at the man who usually holds it. The questions he asks founders every week, asked of him. What surfaced was the tension between the salesman he has always been and the restraint his intuition kept asking for. His whole practice argues against funnels, pitches, and manipulation, and his own site needed to prove it.

The diagnosis:

Build a mirror, not a menu. Let three kinds of founders recognize themselves and self-select. Make every call to action one thing, a conversation. No funnels, no email bribes, nothing that smells like the marketing he teaches people to walk away from. And use his own mantras, the Justinisms he has collected for years, as the architecture of the design instead of stock photography.

The design:

Justin wrote every word of the site himself, because nobody writes Justin better than Justin. My job was the world around the words. His logo is a sky blue dot with a crosshair, so the site opens with Justin himself inside that dot: his portrait cut out, black and white, set in the blue circle with a little dust and grit on it, because the man loves a rugged outdoor brand and grew up on a cattle ranch.

Slab type that matches his wordmark. His mantras scattered through the pages in handwriting, unexplained. Big statements end in a round blue dot, the logo standing in for the period. His sub-brands, Brand Activation, Oracle, F the Formula, each wearing their own mark, and one disciplined rule: F the Formula's red stays inside F the Formula, so Foster Thinking never gets confused with his other company.

The Other projects section: Massive Change, the Massive Change Show, and Third Way, each wearing its own artwork

He was shown two covers for the homepage, a full blue one and a white one with the dot portrait. He picked the white one inside a day.

The new book card: F the Formula, coming Fall 2026

The result:

Live at fosterthinking.com. A perfect accessibility score. Built to be found by search engines and read correctly by AI assistants, so when someone asks who does branding for conscious leaders, the answer is legible. His email protected, his book on the page before launch, his podcast and Substack and Massive all routed to their own front doors. And the site keeps his rule: no funnel anywhere on it. The closing line of the homepage is his own sentence, in his own handwriting: I'm better experienced than explained.

The closing band: "I'm better experienced than explained." No funnel, no pitch, no email capture. One conversation.

"I have worked with many designers over the years. No one has your ability to understand what the client is trying to achieve with their visual brand. It is a powerful and unique gift! You are f*ing awesome at what you do."
